About me
Does it really matter? OK..I'll skip the philosophical questions and get down to my brief autobiography. On the personal front:
I’m friendly, energetic, and open minded. I have learned that it’s best to follow one’s passions in life, rather than trying to be like everyone else. Maybe that’s because of my unique heritage, having a Dutch mother and an Indian father. I grew up in India, and am very well traveled. Culturally, I have a unique mix of Eastern and Western values. I used to have a boat but gave it up due to time constraints. I enjoy flying and was working towards my Private Pilot license before the events of 9/11 happened. I also enjoy Broadway, music, and simply being mellow and hanging out with friends. I love kids, and often wind up entertaining my friend’s kids. I like to travel to destinations near and far, anything from a trip to Europe or sailing the Caribbean on a catamaran. I'm an outdoor person who would rather be out driving, trekking, sailing or playing tennis than sitting in a bar or at home.
On the work front:
I am one of those computer freaks or geeks that spends way too much time in front of the monitor. I started working with computers in the good old days of DOS, long before the days of GPFs (General Protection Faults, for those who have had the fortune not to come across those dreaded MS Windows errors). I don't want to be a hypocrite - inspite of this..I have to admit I do use Windows myself. I had Linux installed, but couldn't quite figured out how to actually do anything productive with it! For those Linux fans who want to flame me for that statement..I've provided a handy dandy comments section below!
But let me not ramble on..getting back to the point..I've been developing apps in Clipper, Foxpro, then onto the world of Windows with Visual Basic and PowerBuilder, followed by Lotus Notes, which I still work on. I also do websites as part of my job, as well as for myself and others in my spare time, using web tools like NetObjects and languages like Java of course. I am one of the people behind the open source Lotus Notes website (http://www.OpenNTF.org) which generates over a million hits a month and over 30,000 registered users, so we're doing something right! We've got some really cool Notes applications you can download, with full source code, if you're interested in Lotus Notes.
Other stuff I want to do:
I like helping others and was helping out a group called Global Youth Connect that is led by and for young people, which supports and encourages youth activism for human rights and social transformation. If you would like to do any kind of voluntary work, you can match your skills with requirements on this great site - www.volunteermatch.org that will find you voluntary work that you can do in an area that you are comfortable with.
I guess that about covers it...if there is anything I've left out, I'm sure somebody will remind me.
Cogito ergo sum (I think, therefore I am)
